The Delhi Development Authority will offer around 21000 flats this June under its housing scheme 2018. According to DDA, the housing scheme will be bigger and better than its previous schemes, with more roomy flats. Unlike last schemes, DDA won’t offer flats surrendered in last schemes.
In last scheme, DDA offered 12,617 flats and 46000 applications were received. After allotting the flats, over 6500 allottees surrendered those flats, primarily because of their location and small size. In 2017, most of the 1-bedroom flats had been offered which were surrendered. According to a senior official in DDA, “Most allottees had complaint that size of 1BHK flats was too uninhabitable and small. This is why, DDA insists applicants to go and check flats before applying for scheme. Most of them don’t do so and visit flats only after allotment.
“Hence, DDA won’t include flats which have been surrendered in last schemes. Only fresh new flats will be allotted in 2018 scheme which would be better than the previous scheme.” No flat should be smaller than 430 sq. ft. These flats are built in the past six months and are now bigger as compared to the ones in previous schemes. In 2018, the one-bedroom flats would be at least 430 sq. ft. which would be more spacious than older flats which were only 323 sq. ft. According to the official, DDA won’t offer flats which are smaller than 430 sq. ft. under 1- bedroom LIG (Lower Income Group) bracket in 2018 housing scheme. The authority would put smaller flats under EWS (economically weaker section) so applicants would know what kind of flat they are getting.
Once again, mostly 1-bedroom flats would be offered under 2018 housing scheme, along with three-bedroom and two-bedroom flats. These flats would be located in Dwarka, Vasant Kunj, Narela, Rohini, and Siraspur. Rather than offering surrendered flats once again in the upcoming scheme and getting them returned, DDA won’t include their 6500 odd flats in this scheme and make change in their design and make them more appealing to the buyers. They are looking forward to merge two 1-bedroom flats into one 2-bedroom unit.
