Karol Bagh Becomes Major Commercial Centre in Delhi   In the Master Plan 2021, the Draft Redevelopment Plan is notified for Special Area, Karol Bag and Walled City Extension and taken in the Technical Committee of DDA. In compliance with the given decision, the Town Planning Department of North Delhi Municipal Corporation has issued public notifications in December in various newspapers last year and inviting suggestions/objections before finalizing them in the Special Area Redevelopment Plan. Karol Bagh Trader’s Welfare Association was one of those who sent suggestions to the DDA. According to the redevelopment plan, Karol Bagh is one of the major commercial centers out of the walled city. The redevelopment plan states that the area is all set to see comprehensive redevelopment with the provision for up-gradation of utilities and facilities and parking. The commercial areas in Karol Bagh have been considered to emerge as a Metro City Centre with a great potential in Special Area. The boundary of the CBD runs through the MM Road, DB Gupta Road, Pusa Road, Panchkuian Marg, Main Tank Road, Maharana Pratap Road, Ramjhas Road, and Vishnu Mandir Marg. Karol Bagh has been divided into Karol Bagh Extension and Karol Bagh – Commercial Area by the MCD. Karol Bagh Extension is completely residential. On the other side, Karol Bagh Commercial is covered by Saraswati Marg, Gurudwara Road, Arya Samaj Road and Desh Bandhu Gupta Road. The area has been divided into six pockets in the plan – from A to F. The area is bound to be covered by Ajmal Khan Road, Bank Street, Saraswati Marg and Hardyan Singh Marg. Saraswati Marg was known as Pocket B and it has been selected for study. The commercial establishments usually deal in saries, jewelry and garments. The establishments engaged in furnishings, electronics/mobiles, general stores, and food outlets have great presence in this landmark. Congestion in the streets is one of the major issues in the pocket and it has adverse impact on business potential. The volume of traffic increases in the main arterial roads due to narrow streets.
