Despite the Property Tax Revenue, the Chart will Still be Below Target

A BBMP senator said that Rs 350 billion in property taxes is "very effective". “We are making some changes. We have held more than 20 khata melas in the hall over the past two months.

There are also plans to connect to data from other agencies to identify areas outside of taxes,” explained the director.

Although BBMP property tax revenue for 2021-22 is higher all the time, the final table will still be below the target.

There is an increase of approximately 5% over last year. However, it would be better than the Rs 4 billion target that BBMP hopes to collect from property taxes in 2021-22.

Since March 26, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has waived Rs 2,950 crore in property taxes and hopes to break Rs 3,000 crore by the end of this year.

The first target was Rs 350 billion, but the BBMP raised it because it needed funds for a project which was added to the budget after its request.

Housing tax is expected for 2021-22 despite trade across Bangalore being hit by two waves of Covid-19 last year.

BBMP's revenue division believes it will top 300 billion rupees over the next five days, with many owners saying they are paying before the deadline, the investment said. She will also organize a meeting with the Association of Hoteliers to encourage hotel owners to pay property taxes. Many hoteliers have delayed paying their property taxes to get a government exemption as their businesses have suffered from the contagion.

Property tax is an important source of revenue for public groups but has failed to provide a measure to raise tax rates. Election officials estimate that at least 500,000 homes within the BBMP restriction remain outside the property tax.

Srikanth Viswanathan, director of the Janagraha Center for Citizenship and Democracy, praised the BBMP for filing the property tax when it called for housing reforms to improve the system. He said the public had not studied enough information about the Post Offices and Registrars, BWSSB and Bescom, which have more assets under the BBMP ban than in the tax prosecution.
